The second International Conference COMETa 2014 (Conference on Mechanical Engineering Technologies and Applications) titled “Applied technology in mechanical engineering” was held in Jahorina, from 2 to 5 December 2014, hosted by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of East Sarajevo.

The possibilities of introducing new technologies in manufacturing companies with the aim of modernization and optimization of production processes were reviewed at the Conference. This should lead to an increase in the effectiveness of production, and therefore competitiveness in the global market. In addition, the possibilities of development and improvement of products using new technologies were also reviewed at the Conference, which should contribute to job creation.

102 scientific and professional papers from 230 authors and co-authors from 11 countries in the region and beyond were included in the Conference programme. Papers were presented in eight working sessions. Also, four workshops were organized as well as a round table discussions on current topics.

The conference was attended by representatives of leading companies and research centers in the region, representatives of institutions of quality infrastructure and other stakeholders. Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by Aleksandar Cincar, director of the Institute, and Miljan Savić, advisor and quality management representative at the Institute.

Within the workshop “Quality Management System in the Western Balkans”, the delegation of the Institute presented the work of the Institute and the technical committee for quality. Also, at the round table “The importance of quality infrastructure in Bosnia and Herzegovina” the representatives of the Institute talked about the importance of standards and standardization from the aspect of quality infrastructure.

In addition, paper Business continuity management, whose authors are Miljan Savić and Goran Tešanović from the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was included in Conference work programme.

This type of gathering of the representatives of academia, industry and other relevant stakeholders, is a serious attempt to contribute to economic development in the region, as well as the creation of a single European and global research space.
