Webinar "Application of BIM in BiH - Feasibility study and BIM standards" successfully held

On April 12, 2021, a webinar on "Application of BIM in BiH - Feasibility study and BIM standards" was successfully held. The webinar was attended by over 80 participants, representatives of business, public administration and academia.

The results of the project "Support to the implementation of BIM in BiH" and "Feasibility Study" and BIM standards were presented to the participants.

The Czech Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing, in cooperation with the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has implemented the project "Support to the Implementation of BIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina", within the Challenge Fund of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The following results were achieved within the project:

  •          A Baseline Study on the Implementation of BIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been developed which represents a starting point for identifying key BIM issues to be addressed and steps/measures to be taken to provide the necessary conditions and environment for advanced BIM implementation methods in BiH.

  •          The Concept for the introduction of the BIM method has been developed, which seeks to show the goals that could be achieved in certain areas, including the identification of basic assumptions and recommendations for the achievement of these goals.

  •          Feasibility study which represents a plan for the implementation of BIM in BiH,

  •          Basic BIM standards have been translated,

  •          Two webinars on the application of BIM were organized.

BiH experts talked about the role of the public sector in the adoption and application of BIM both globally and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the implementation of BIM in the formal education system, standardization of data structures for electronic catalogs of the construction services and BIM in practice.

It was concluded that the implementation of BIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina is at an early stage and that adequate and proper intervention at this stage is of great importance for the rapid adoption and implementation of BIM in the future. The government role is crucial for the adoption of BIM and its implementation. It is necessary to conduct multidisciplinary and integrated activities between different players in different fields (architecture, engineering and construction industry), both in the private and the public sector. Likewise, the importance of creating cultural changes through BIM education is highlighted. The inclusion of BIM, especially in the curricula of academic education which enables students to get acquainted with the BIM concept and acquire some basic skills, is a basic prerequisite for the progress and successful application of the BIM method.
