Webinar - "Implementation of BIM method - key steps to pave the way to BIM adoption" successfully held

Organized by the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ISBIH) and the Czech Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing (ÚNMZ), within the UNDP Challenge Fund: Czech solutions for the SDGs "Support to BIM implementation in Bosnia and Herzegovina", a webinar "Implementation of BIM method - key steps to pave the way to BIM adoption" was successfully held on December 9, 2020.

Experts from the Czech Republic, Štěpanká Tomanová from the Czech Agency for Standardization (ČAS) and Filip Kalina from the largest Czech construction company Metrostav, shared their experiences with participants in applying the BIM method in the European Union with special reference to the Czech Republic. Also, Czech experts presented the document "Concept of application of BIM method in Bosnia and Herzegovina" which was created as a result of a project study within the project "Support to BIM implementation in Bosnia and Herzegovina". Ms. Tomanová and Mr. Kalina also introduced the participants with the concept of green BIM, ie. methodology and criteria that this term implies.

The participants had the opportunity to learn about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the application of the BIM method, challenges in application and education as an important area for the implementation of the BIM method from BiH experts Muhamed Serdarević, founder of Normal Architecture and president of the BIM Alliance of BIH, doc. Dr. Gordana Broćeta from the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, University of Banja Luka, the team from Hering,  company from Široki Brijeg consisting of Mario Jurišić, Ivana Rezić Slišković and Sanja Čolić, and representative of the ISBIH BIM project team Mrs. Bojana Zečević.

The webinar was attended by over 50 participants, representatives of business, public administration and academia. During the discussion, the participants exchanged their experiences related to the application of the BIM method in BiH. The conclusion is that the architectural and construction sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina needs to be modernized, and that the implementation of the BIM method, the preparation of the BIM Implementation Strategy in BiH, as well as the establishment of legislation in this area is a good step forward. Given that some of the European countries are still at the beginning or in the early stages of the implementation of the BIM method, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a unique opportunity to start timely implementation of BIM and catch up with Europe and the rest of the world.
