Standards for tourism
European Committee for Standardization - CEN and European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization - CENELEC, together with their full and associate members, are conducting the campaign #holidayswithstandards and want to highlight the role and importance of standards in all spheres of life.
Over the past few decades, there has been major advances in tourism, which has become one of the largest and fastest growing economic sectors in the world. There is an increasing number of interesting destinations around the world and investments in tourism, turning it into a key driver of socio-economic progress through the creation of new jobs and enterprises, export growth and infrastructure development. Also, the number of tourists is increasing every year - from 25 million as recorded in 1950 to 1186 million in 2015.
