The bestselling standard in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2019 is BAS EN ISO/IEC 17025: 2018, General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. The standard was adopted into the standardization system of BiH by the translation method through Technical Committee BAS/TC 3, Quality Management and Quality Assurance.

BAS EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard is developed for accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories. It contains requirements that enables laboratories to demonstrate that they operate competently and are able to generate valid results.

This standard is the international reference for testing and calibration laboratories. Producing valid results that are widely trusted is at the heart of laboratory activities. By implementing the requirements of this standard, laboratories demonstrate that they are technically competent and able to produce valid and reliable results.

The use of this document will facilitate cooperation between laboratories and other bodies and assists in the exchange of information and experiences, as well as in the harmonization of standards and procedures. The acceptance of results between countries is facilitated if laboratories conform with this document. Test reports and certificates can be accepted from one country to another without the need for further testing, which, in turn improves international trade. Namely, with its competent test results, the laboratory provides removal of barriers in international trade and speeding up the flow of goods, which is based on an international credible system for the recognition of test results.

BAS EN ISO/IEC 17025: 2018 is applicable to all organizations performing laboratory activities, regardless of the number of personnel.

The Institute for Accreditation of BiH is a bilateral signatory to the EA Multilateral Agreement (EA BLA) for accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories.

According to the Institute for Accreditation of BiH, as of December 24, 2019, the number of accredited bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina that complies with the requirements of BAS EN ISO/IEC 17025 is 82.
