Original BiH standards for vertical road traffic signs

Due to the consumer interest and the importance of implementing standards in vertical traffic signalization, a series of original national standards was made publicly available by the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina:
BAS 1050:2014, Vertical road traffic signs - Technical requirements
BAS 1051:2014, Vertical road traffic signs - Danger warning signs
BAS 1052:2014, Vertical road traffic signs - Prohibitory or restrictive signs
BAS 1053:2014, Vertical road traffic signs – Information Signs
BAS 1054:2014, Vertical road traffic signs - Advance direction road traffic signs
BAS 1055:2014, Vertical road traffic signs – Additional panels
Listed standards will be published in the Bulletin of the Institute No. 1-2/2014.

Given the fact that the road construction in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been intensified, it is necessary to mount a large number of traffic signs. Signing system for road traffic is defined by the UN-ECE Convention on road signs and signal *, and since the European standards do not specify the technical requirements for traffic signs, Bosnia and Herzegovina had to develop their own national standards for that area.

The basis for development of these original standards was a series of European standards for fixed signs EN 12899, primarily EN 12899-1, Fixed, vertical road traffic signs - Part 1: Fixed signs.

BAS 1050:2014 establishes technical requirements – dimensions of usual forms of traffic signs and their font, while standards BAS 1051:2014, 1052:2014 BAS, BAS 1053:2014, 1054:2014 BAS and BAS 1055:2014 respectively establish shape of traffic signs: danger warning signs, prohibitory or restrictive signs, information signs, advance direction road traffic signs and additional panels.

These original BiH standards were developed by BAS/TC 22, Road Construction, which monitors the work of the CEN/TC 226, Road safety, whose scope includes a vertical traffic signalization as well.
