On Friday 22 March 2013, at the premises of EU Delegation to BiH in Sarajevo, a final conference of the Twinning project „Support to the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina“ was held, financed by the European Commission and IPA 2009 fund and state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Conference was attended by the representatives of the institutions that established contact points within this project, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations (MVTEO), Republic Institute for Standardization and Metrology of Republic of Srpska, Directorate for European Integrations (DEI), representatives of the projects financed by the EU, representatives of World Bank, German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Project has vital importance for development of quality infrastructure in BiH and creating environment that will enable industries and manufacturers to enhance their trade and economic relations with EU and international market.

In that context, the aim of the project was to improve transparency and access to information regarding standards development at national, European and international level as well as improving information systems to be compatible with international and European standards organizations.

At the final conference, Mr. Martin Schieder, Head of Operation Section ll (Economic Development, Natural Resources, Infrastructure) and Mr. Aleksandar Cincar, Director of the Institute for Standardization of BiH addressed all attendees. Project presentations were also held by the representatives of project team and the Institute.

It was emphasised that the project fully met all expectations and that BAS as a government body is not the only one that benefited from implementation of the project but the industry and all stakeholders as well. They can now use state-of-the-art Standard Information Management System (SMIS) through new BAS web site.

Through the project Implementation BAS has been strengthened to fulfil active role in European and international standardization. The Institute for Standardization of BiH has established an Information Centre and Notification Point for standards notification in line with European legislation and requirements of World Trade Organization (WTO).
