2nd Conference on Earthquakes of the Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Bosnia and Herzegovina
2nd Conference of the Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Bosnia and Herzegovina on “Earthquakes” was held on 17 December 2014 in Sarajevo, organized by the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and supported by UNDP.
This was an opportunity to talk, within professional discussion, about earthquakes as a natural phenomenon, the seismic risk assessment for Bosnia and Herzegovina, earthquake-resistant design and construction, earthquake protection and rescue, as well as emergency management.
The conference was attended by representatives of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, relevant institutions in the field of hydro-meteorology, seismology, civil protection, civil engineering of the entities as well as the representatives of international institutions. Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by Miljan Savić, advisor and dr. Đorđe Radoje, president of the newly formed technical committee BAS/TC 59, Societal security and protection.
Within the conference, the delegation of the Institute presented the work of the Institute as well as the importance of standards in the field of structural design and management of emergency situations. Attendees had the opportunity to get acquainted with the requirements of ISO 22320, Social Security - Emergency Management - Requirements for incident response. This standard establishes minimum requirements for an effective incident response and provides the basis for management, operational information, coordination and cooperation within the organization responsible for the incident response. The standard can be applied to any organization (private, public, governmental or non-governmental), including the preparation or incident response at the international, national, regional or local level.
