9th General Assembly Meeting of SMIIC in Istanbul
9th General Assembly Meeting of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries - SMIIC was held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 24 May 2016. The SMIIC meeting was attended by the representatives of the following countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Iran, Jordan, Cameroon, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Pakistan, Palestine , Saudi Arabia, Suriname, Senegal, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Northern Cyprus.
SMIIC technical committees are developing standards and conducting standard audits according to the activities within the scope of a specific Technical Committee (eg. TC1-Halal Food Issues- Technical Committee on issues related to Halal food, TC2-Halal Cosmetic Issues - Technical Committee on issues related to Halal cosmetics, etc.). TC1 Halal Food Issues prepares the revision of Halal standards OIC/SMIIC series: Guidelines on Halal food, guidelines for bodies providing Halal certification and guidelines for Halal accreditation body accrediting halal certification bodies. TC 2 Halal Cosmetic Issues prepares standards for Halal cosmetics. General Assembly attendees have been made aware that the scope of the Committee has been defined and that a document for consideration, entitled “Halal cosmetics and personal care products: General guidelines” has been prepared. More intense activities regarding the work of these Technical Committees has also been planned.
