EN 14127: 2014, Non-destructive testing - Ultrasonic thickness measurement

Due to the interest shown by its customers, the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina has made publicly available its standard BAS EN 14127: 2014, Non-destructive testing - Ultrasonic thickness measurement. The mentioned standard will be published in the Bulletin of the Institute no. 3-4/2014. The third edition of national standard BAS EN 14127: 2014, Non-destructive testing - Ultrasonic thickness measurement (EN 14127: 2011, IDT) in a bilingual version in Bosnian and English, is adopted by translation method.

The original text of the European standard has been prepared by the European Technical Committee CEN/TC 138, Non-destructive testing, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.

This standard specifies the principles of ultrasonic thickness measurements of metallic and non-metallic materials by direct contact, based on measurement of time-of-flight of ultrasonic pulses only.

The thickness of a part or structure is determined by accurately measuring the time required for a short ultrasonic pulse generated by a transducer to travel through the thickness of the material once, twice or several times.

The material thickness is calculated by multiplying the known sound velocity of the material with the transit time and dividing by the number of times the pulse transits the material wall.

BAS EN 14127: 2014 was prepared by the technical committee of the Institute for Standardization of BiH, BAS/TC 24, Non-destructive testing.
