Accreditation is а formal recognition that a national body for accreditation, аfter the accreditation procedure, confirms that the organization is competent to perform certain tasks in a defined scope of accreditation. Accreditation of the medical laboratories is an instrument in establishing trust in the competence of the laboratories and is based on the implementation of the requirements of the international standards. Accreditation process is now generally accepted mechanism for improvement of the quality of medical laboratory services in most Western countries.

The accreditation of medical laboratories is carried out in accordance with the requirements of EN ISO 15189 “Medical laboratories - Particular requirements for quality and competence”.

Laboratory of the Health Centre in Bijeljina is the first accredited medical laboratory in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
