Single Market Academy: Building Expertise in Standardisation

Representatives of the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in a two-day regional workshop titled “Single Market Academy: Building Expertise in Standardisation”, held on 15–16 April 2026 in Tirana, Albania, organized by GIZ and partner institutions. The workshop was dedicated to strengthening competencies in the field of standardization and developing a common approach to training national standardization bodies of Western Balkan countries.

The Institute for Standardization of BiH was represented at the workshop by:

  • MSc Goran Tešanović, Assistant Director for Conformity Assessment,
  • Zvezdan Šehovac, Head of the Department for Electrotechnical Standardization,
  • MSc Miljan Savić, Head of the Department for Conformity Assessment.

The aim of the workshop was to review the current state of training systems and competency development within national standardization bodies, identify future needs, and define joint directions for capacity development in the field of standardization.

Special focus was placed on:

-        development of competencies and experts in the field of standardization,

-        development of a joint training curriculum for Western Balkan countries,

-        strengthening regional cooperation and exchange of experience,

-        digital transformation in the field of standardization,

-        preparation of institutions for new challenges such as smart standards, digital tools, and emerging technologies.

National standardization bodies play a key role not only in the development and adoption of standards, but also in education, competency development, and support to the economy and institutions in the implementation of standards. Regional cooperation and digital transformation represent important elements of the future development of standardization in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
