79th IEC GENERAL MEETING

From 12 to 16 October 2015, in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, a 79th  Annual Meeting of the IEC was held. Host of this year's General Meeting was the Belarusian IEC National Committee (BELLIS Testing and Certification of Home Appliances and Industrial Products).

 

Topic of this year's General Meeting was “Smarter use of energy: improving people’s lives” and “Unified Requirements and Conformity Assessment - key drivers for world trade”.

 

Consistent work by the international community in these directions is important for dynamic development of global trade based on mutual trust, sustainability of national economies and raising the quality of people’s lives. IEC work continues to grow in importance. Today, electricity drives everything. It is unseen but indispensable. IEC ensures that billions of devices and systems are able to work with each other safely and efficiently, everywhere in the world.

 

Participants had the opportunity to cooperate and exchange the ideas and information in a series of technical meetings, workshops and other similar events.

 

At the General Meeting, Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by Mr. Aleksandar Cincar, Director of the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ms. Mirjana Šućur, Secretary General of BiH Electrical Engineering Committee (BAKE) and Head of the Department for standardization for IEC/ITU/CENELEC/ETSI at the Institute.

 

The delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina attended and participated in the sessions of the IEC Standardization Management Board (SMB), the sessions of the Conformity Assessment Board (CAB), workshop for industrializing countries and the NC Secretaries’ Forum and NC Presidents’ workshop.

 

The reports regarding the work of the IEC and its working bodies were presented at the meeting, new members were elected, the implementation of the plan were discussed as well as cooperation with other international and regional organizations and other current topics.
