78th IEC General Meeting

78th Annual Meeting of the IEC was held from 10 to 14 November 2014 in the capital of Japan, Tokyo. Host of this year's General Assembly was the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee - JISC, the Japanese National Committee of the IEC.

 

The theme of this year's General Assembly was “The integration towards a smarter world - co-existence and sustainability”. The word “smarter” in this instance includes various meanings such as more intelligent, energy saving, environmentally friendly and safe. In order to realize a future smarter world, which should be spread globally, various new technologies should be integrated as a system. Coexistence and sustainability are also of utmost importance now and in the future.

 

This theme, which is consistent with the concept of IEC Master Plan 2011, was shared among the IEC communities in order to work together, and the General Meeting in Tokyo has enabled progress towards creating a smarter world.

 

Participants had the opportunity to interact and engage in valuable exchange of ideas and information at the technical and management meetings as well as at the related events and activities.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by Mr. Aleksandar Cincar, director of the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ms. Mirjana Šućur, Secretary General of IEC National Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BAKE) and head of the department for standardization in the field of IEC/ITU/CENELEC/ETSI at the Institute.

The delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina also attended and participated in the session of the IEC Standardization Management Board – SMB, the session of the Conformity Assessment Board - CAB, at the workshop for industrializing countries, and the NC Secretaries’ Forum and NC Presidents’ Forum.

 

Reports of the work of IEC and its working bodies were presented at the Meeting, new members were elected and the implementation of the plan, cooperation with other international and regional organizations, as well as other current topics were discussed.
