13th Symposium of medical biochemists of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held on 31 May 2013 in hotel Hollywood, Sarajevo. The following presentations were held at the Symposium: „Quality management for control of the pre-analytical phase“, „External evaluation for the control of lab results in Bosnia and Herzegovina“ as well as the  presentation of the sponsor of the Symposium, Inel-med Ltd. Mostar. On behalf of the Institute for standardization of BiH M.S. Pharm. Tatjana Vidovic held a presentation „International and European standardization in the health care area in Bosnia and Herzegovina“ during which participants gained new knowledge on international, European and Bosnian standardization as well as on the activities of the Institute whereas special attention was paid to standards BAS EN ISO 15189 (Medical laboratories – Particular requirements for quality and competence) and BAS EN ISO IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories). Also, the significance of implementation of European and international standards in the field of medical biochemistry was emphasised, and the mentioned standards are adopted into Bosnia and Herzegovina standardization.
