15th CEN and CENELEC Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) was held from 5 to 6 June in Bucharest, Romania, and was hosted by the Association for Standardization of Romania (ASRO).

At the General Assembly of CEN and CENELEC, inter alia, the standardization strategy for the period beyond 2020, the criteria for membership in European standardization organizations, as well as information on the recommendations of the Industry Advisory Forum (IAF) were discussed. On the last day of this meeting, a conference on European standardization was held, discussing challenges and opportunities for standardization within the European Single Market beyond 2020.

A special topic to discuss was “Cybersecurity and standardization”. Cybersecurity is becoming more relevant for all sectors of industry. Digital transformation of the industry, our organizations and our lives offers many opportunities and benefits but being more interconnected also increases the risk of sophisticated cyber threats and attacks. That is why the European Union needs stronger and more efficient structures to ensure its resilience and its ability to respond effectively to cyber-attacks.
