New standards adopted by translation method

BiH standards BAS EN 12520: 2017, Furniture - Strength, durability and safety - Requirements for domestic seating and BAS EN 12521: 2017, Furniture - Strength, durability and safety - Requirements for domestic tables, has been adopted by translation method.


The original text of these European standards was prepared by the Technical Committee CEN/TC 207 “Furniture”, whose secretariat is held by UNI.

 


BAS EN 12520: 2017, Furniture - Strength, durability and safety - Requirements for domestic seating, specifies the minimum requirements for the safety, strength and durability of all types of domestic seating for adults.

 

The standard does not apply to ranks seating, seating for non-domestic use, office work chairs, office visitor chairs, chairs for educational institutions, outdoor seating, and the links for linked seating for which European Standards exist. The standard also does not include requirements for the durability of upholstery materials, castors, reclining and tilting mechanisms and seat height adjustment mechanism, as well as the requirements for electrical safety, resistance to aging, degradation, flammability and ergonomics. The tests are based on use by persons weighing up to 110 kg.

 


BAS EN 12521: 2017, Furniture - Strength, durability and safety - Requirements for domestic tables, specifies the minimum requirements for the safety, strength and durability of all types of domestic tables for use by adults, including those with glass in their construction.

 

 


This standard does not apply to office tables and office desks, tables for non-domestic use, tables for educational institutions and outdoor tables for which EN standards exist. The standard does not apply to tables where the table top is not fixed to the understructure, i.e. when applying test 3, Table 2, the top becomes detached from the understructure.


With the exception of stability tests, the standard does not provide assessment of the suitability of any storage features included in domestic tables.


The standard does not include requirements for the durability of castors and height adjustment mechanisms and requirements for electrical safety, as well as requirements for the resistance to aging and degradation.

 


Annex A (informative) contains a table top deflection test.
