Single Market Academy (SMA)

Organized by the GIZ EU4Trade project, with the support of the European Union and the Government of Montenegro, the Single Market Academy (SMA) was officially opened in Podgorica on 11 November 2025, a key regional initiative aimed at strengthening quality infrastructure and preparing the Western Balkan countries for integration into the EU Single Market.

The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ISBIH) was represented by Miljan Savić, Head of the Conformity Assessment Department, whose presence confirmed ISBIH’s strategic commitment to actively contributing to regional cooperation and the modernization of the standardization system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the opening ceremony, it was emphasized that the Single Market Academy is much more than a training programme. SMA represents a regional platform for knowledge transfer, technical cooperation, and practical implementation of European rules, particularly in the areas of:

  • standardization,
  • accreditation,
  • metrology,
  • market surveillance,
  • institutional strengthening of the quality infrastructure system.

The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to develop cooperation with GIZ, the European Commission, and other relevant institutions within the SMA framework, especially in the areas of digital transformation and the improvement of standardization processes, which will contribute to the further development and enhancement of the standardization system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
