Definition (EN)standardized system of classifying fires (4.96) in terms of the nature of the fuel (4.161) EXAMPLE In Europe and Australasia there are six classes: — Class A: fire involving solid materials, usually of an organic nature, in which combustion (4.46) normally takes place with the formation of glowing (4.168) embers; — Class B: fires involving liquids or liquefiable solids; — Class C: fires involving gases; — Class D: fires involving metals; — Class E: fires involving electrical hazards; — Class F: fires involving cooking oil or fat.
