Plenary session of ISO/TC 34 - Food products

From 23 to 27 April 2012,  the plenary session of the ISO / TC 34 - Food products was held as well as ISO/DEVCO regional workshops for developing countries in Nairobi, Kenya, on “Standards contribution to the food sector in Africa.” At the initiative of the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with the consent of the Technical committee for food BAS/TC 43, this session was attended by Biljana Balaj, expert at the Institute.

Plenary session was opened by Minister of Industry of Kenya, and was chaired by Dr. Francois Falconnet, president of ISO/TC 34 - Food products, who briefed present participants on the strategy and action plan for developing countries regarding food products and stressed the importance of including as many countries as possible in the work of ISO technical committees.

Currently, 120 countries is included in the work of ISO/TC 34 (52 P-members and 68 O-members). The food sector has 15 subcommittees and 5 working groups. At this year's plenary session there were 47 participants from 33 countries.

Ms. Sandrine Espeillac , the Secretary of ISO/TC 34, especially thanked to all developing countries for participating for the first time in such an event, emphasizing Bosnia and Herzegovina, among others.
